Frequently Asked Questions

How do I clean my brass serveware to maintain its shine?

Brass naturally develops a beautiful, dark layer called patina over time. To restore its shine, you can use a traditional natural mixture of lemon juice and baking soda, or a brass polish. Gently rub the paste on the item, rinse thoroughly with water, and dry immediately with a soft cloth.

Is it normal for brass items to change color?

Yes, this is completely normal and a sign of authentic, pure brass! The darkening is called patination, which is part of the wabi-sabi aesthetic we embrace. It adds character and legacy to your pieces.

Are the cotton mats and baskets washable?

Yes. To preserve the structure and texture of the cotton, we recommend gentle hand-washing with mild soap in cold water. Reshape while damp and allow them to air dry flat or hang dry. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.

What is the difference between Brass (Pital) and Copper (Tamba)?

Brass (Pital) is an alloy composed primarily of Copper and Zinc. Copper (Tamba) is a pure elemental metal. Functionally, this difference means Brass is generally stronger and more durable than pure Copper, and it features a distinctive rich golden-yellow color. While Copper is prized for its historical health uses (especially for water), Brass is the preferred metal for our heritage servingware due to its superior strength and lasting golden shine.

Are the brass serving spoons and handis safe for food contact?

Our brass items are generally safe for serving. However, we do not recommend storing acidic foods (like curd, tomatoes, or lemon pickles) in brass for extended periods, as the acid can react with the metal. Always wash and dry immediately after use.

What does "Conscious Choice" mean at Bulkysanta?

Our Conscious Choice approach means we focus on intentional consumerism. We select products that are durable, ethically sourced, and carry cultural significance, thereby reducing waste and supporting a sustainable, thoughtful lifestyle.

Where are your products crafted?

All of our products, including our brassware and cotton items, are handcrafted by local artisans across various regions of India. This commitment helps us preserve traditional Indian craftsmanship and support local livelihoods.

Why do two of the same handcrafted items (like Brass Handis or Cotton Mats) look slightly different?

This is a wonderful sign of authenticity! Every item in the Bulkysanta collection is individually handcrafted by an artisan, not mass-produced by a machine. Slight and subtle variations in size, finish, texture, or weight are a natural result of this process. This unique variance is the hallmark of artisanal quality, perfectly embodying the wabi-sabi aesthetic, and ensures your item is truly one-of-a-kind.

What should I do if my order arrives damaged?

We pack our items with great care, but if your order arrives damaged, please contact our customer support team immediately (within 48 hours) and include photographs of the packaging and the damaged item. We will arrange for a prompt replacement or refund.
